Military Assault Command Organization (MACO) was originally formed in the 2150's by the United Earth Government as a Military Force to operate in tandem with Starfleet. Falling out of 'use' after the founding of the Federation in 2161 (Although some MACO's continued to exist through 23rd and 24th Century) Military Assault Command Organization was officially reformed in 2407 as a sub-division within Starfleet Security, Enlisted MACO's coming under the designation "Special Warfare Operator" and Officers "Special Warfare Officer"

The Contingent of MACO's on a ship report directly to the Captain of the ship or selected Command Staff such as the Executive Officer, many MACO's receive their training at Fort Coronado, California, Earth.
